My heart hurts. My guess is that so does yours. What is happening in our world is disturbing, disappointing, and downright unacceptable. We are all in this life together and we ALL have the same value. I had no control over being born a Caucasian female. I have no control over the family I was born into or the fact that I have long toes (thanks dad!) and dancer’s feet. My traits were gifted to me through some clever antics of genetics and the combination of two people who created me. Period.
Why do we put so much angry effort into attacking differences when so much of who we are was completely out of our control? This has been a century long issue as we know but the depth and pain behind all of this is mindboggling.
I love people. I have friends of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I LOVE that. I honor and respect our individual differences and I learn. I listen. I express kindness and compassion. Isn’t this the bare minimum we should expect from our leaders?
I firmly believe that leadership must start NOW. I have worked with children and teenagers for about three decades now and I LOVE the creativity and passion kids have for life. I am energized by their willingness to take risks and be creative. Leading starts very young and guiding our young people into leadership opportunities will make this a better world.
I challenge all of you to be a mentor and role model to our young people. If you have children, don’t delay in helping them find ways to lead. If you have interactions with children or teens in community groups such as church or sports or even scouts or 4-H be the leader to them they need to see so that they in turn can be our next exceptional leaders.
The leadership we see now is not effective nor does it take the cares and concerns of people into consideration. I may get some kickback for this kind of comment but the reality is that blaming, making angry comments, and reacting negatively in times when people need compassion and love is NOT leading.
What type of leader do you want in our future? I know that I want to see some of these amazing young folks to be our next leaders in business, in our government, in our communities and in our lives. We can no longer wait for things to fix themselves.
Please make a comment below, what young leaders do you know who can change our world for the better? Are you helping to nurture them?
